U.S. SENATORIAL CANDIDATE STEPHANIE PHILLIPS HIGHLIGHTS URGENT CONCERNS REGARDING SECRETARY OF STATE BLINKEN’S RECENT VISIT TO CHINA

NV – It is clear the United States has completely lost any respect from China as their treatment of Secretary Blinken was obviously less than the grand and warm reception of Bill Gates’ arrival last week. Secretary Blinken was sidelined and is reported to have only spent 30 minutes with President Xi. Such treatment of the United States Secretary of State is embarrassing to say the least, especially considering that there has not been a visit like it since 2018. As the first top American diplomat to visit China in recent years, Secretary Blinken’s discussions with Chinese officials should have included key matters such as Taiwan, trade, and several urgent concerns affecting bilateral relations.

One of the pressing issues that demand Secretary Blinken’s attention is the recent incident involving a Chinese spy balloon, which intruded U.S. airspace earlier this year. The unauthorized presence of this surveillance device underscores the need for diplomatic admonishment and reinforces the importance of maintaining mutual respect and transparency between our two nations.

Additionally, the fentanyl crisis at our southern border must be addressed. It has been reported that fentanyl is coming in from China and we must demand they address this and that we work together to stop the illegal drug trade.

Another matter of grave concern is the decade-long human rights violations against the Uyghur population in Xinjiang. The well-documented reports of forced labor, torture, rape, and sterilization demands immediate international attention and action. The United States’ unwavering commitment to upholding human rights and justice must be the core of all discussions with China.

Furthermore, Secretary Blinken must address the plight of the Americans who have been detained by China for what Washington is calling “politically motivated reasons.” The protection of American citizens is of paramount importance, and any unjust detention or infringement upon their rights must be firmly addressed by the United States.

“As a candidate for the United States Senate, I am committed to protecting the interests of the American people and promoting fair and respectful international relations. The urgent matters at hand require strong and principled leadership.”

Stephanie Phillips, U.S. Senate 2024
